Infor PLM for Process

Infor PLM for Process, formerly Optiva, is a cloud formulation and specification PLM from Infor for food, beverage, chemical and life sciences manufacturers, alongside Infor's fashion and discrete PLM products.

Overview

Infor offers three PLM products: PLM for Process, PLM for Fashion and PLM for Discrete. PLM for Process, long known as Optiva, is the most established and the focus of this profile. It covers stage-gate project management, recipe and formula development with cost and nutrition optimisation, raw material specifications with supplier collaboration, ingredient and allergen statements, claims generation, packaging BOM validation and regulatory checks. Infor also describes analytics and generative AI for product descriptions and translations.

PLM for Process runs on the Infor Industry Cloud Platform and is marketed with Infor CloudSuite Food & Beverage and CloudSuite Chemicals, so BOMs pass to ERP and purchasing data returns to PLM. It also integrates with CRM and LIMS systems. Named customers include Reckitt, Keurig Dr Pepper and My Food Bag. PLM for Fashion adds an Adobe Illustrator connection, material and trim libraries and tech pack workflows. PLM for Discrete serves the discrete manufacturing market previously addressed by Infor PLM Accelerate, an Aras-based product launched in 2015, a name that no longer appears on Infor's current PLM pages.

Infor was founded in 2002 and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Koch Industries in 2020. Its PLM products suit organisations that already run Infor ERP or the Infor OS platform and want product development data connected to manufacturing, costing and procurement.

Best fit

Process manufacturers in food, beverage, chemicals and life sciences, particularly those running or selecting Infor CloudSuite ERP.

Presence in Europe

Infor sells and supports its PLM products through regional organisations across Europe, and markets PLM for Process with UK and European customer references such as Reckitt.

Strengths

  • Mature formulation, specification and labelling functionality with a long history under the Optiva name.
  • Close integration with Infor CloudSuite Food & Beverage and Chemicals ERP for BOM and purchasing data.
  • Cloud delivery on the Infor Industry Cloud Platform with analytics and generative AI features.
  • A portfolio that also covers fashion and discrete manufacturing for groups with mixed business units.

Considerations

  • The value case is strongest for Infor ERP customers, so non-Infor environments should validate integration effort carefully.
  • The fashion and discrete products have smaller visible market footprints than PLM for Process, so references should be checked per product.
  • Product naming has changed over time (Optiva, CloudSuite PLM, PLM Accelerate), so contracts and documentation should state the exact product and version.
