Planisware Enterprise and Planisware Nova

Planisware is a project and product portfolio management platform from French vendor Planisware, used for R&D portfolio, stage-gate, resource and financial planning alongside PLM systems.

Overview

Planisware develops project portfolio and product portfolio management software for R&D, engineering and project-driven organisations. The company was founded in France in 1996, is headquartered in Châtillon near Paris, and listed on Euronext Paris in 2024, with its founders retaining a majority stake. Its products include Planisware Enterprise for large-scale portfolio and project management, Planisware Nova for product development and innovation, Planisware Orchestra as a packaged PPM offering, Horizon for IT portfolio management and Valoris for capital investment planning.

For product development, Planisware supports stage-gate, agile, waterfall and hybrid methods in one portfolio view; models products, platforms and variants against technology roadmaps; and handles multi-year budgeting, development cost tracking, scenario planning and skill-based capacity planning. AI features include idea scoring, prioritisation recommendations, early risk detection and an assistant named Oscar, and customers can connect their own LLM, such as Azure OpenAI or Copilot, through an MCP-based architecture. Native connectors and a REST API link Planisware to PLM, ERP, agile and BI tools.

Planisware is complementary to engineering PLM: it governs which products and projects to fund and when, while PLM manages the product definition. In H1 2026 the company reported EUR 106.1m revenue, 82% from SaaS. Typical customers are pharmaceutical, medical device, aerospace, automotive, chemicals and consumer goods companies with large R&D portfolios.

Best fit

R&D-intensive organisations that need portfolio governance, stage-gate control and resource and financial planning across many development projects, used alongside an engineering PLM.

Presence in Europe

Planisware is headquartered in Châtillon near Paris, and Europe generated EUR 53.1m of its EUR 106.1m revenue in H1 2026 according to the company's results presentation.

Strengths

  • Deep portfolio, stage-gate, resource and financial planning capabilities support R&D investment decisions.
  • Support for agile, waterfall and hybrid methods allows mixed hardware and software development portfolios.
  • A bring-your-own-LLM architecture via MCP keeps R&D data out of vendor-hosted AI models.
  • A predominantly SaaS business with a strong European base and listed-company reporting transparency.

Considerations

  • Planisware does not manage BOMs, CAD data or engineering change, so it requires a separate PLM system for product definition.
  • Value depends on integration with PLM, ERP and timesheet data, which needs to be planned as part of the project.
  • The breadth of configuration options for enterprise portfolios can lengthen design and rollout phases.
