Backbone PLM
Backbone PLM is a cloud product development tool for consumer goods and fashion brands, created in Boulder, Colorado, and part of Bamboo Rose since its acquisition in March 2023.
Overview
Backbone PLM was founded in 2014 in Boulder, Colorado, and built a cloud product development platform for fashion, apparel, footwear, outdoor, accessories and home goods brands. Its focus was the front end of development: product and component libraries, bills of materials, tech packs and real-time collaboration with factories and vendors. A 2022 Adobe Illustrator plugin synchronised sketches, colourways and component renderings into Backbone and captured artboard revisions for tech packs.
Bamboo Rose, a retail PLM and sourcing vendor owned by Rubicon Technology Partners, acquired Backbone PLM in March 2023. Backbone's CEO joined Bamboo Rose as senior vice president of product. Since then the Backbone brand has receded: software directories state that Backbone PLM is now part of Bamboo Rose, and in October 2024 The S Group announced a move from Backbone PLM to the Bamboo Rose retail management platform. Bamboo Rose's January 2025 TotalPLM launch does not list Backbone as a named module.
Status note: the PLM Vendors editorial team could not confirm in October 2026 whether Backbone PLM is still sold to new customers as a standalone product. Existing customers and prospective buyers should ask Bamboo Rose directly about availability, support terms and migration paths to TotalPLM.

Presence in Europe
Backbone PLM was a US product with a mainly North American customer base, and no dedicated European presence was found in current sources.
