3DEXPERIENCE platform (ENOVIA)

3DEXPERIENCE is a cloud and on-premises product development platform from Dassault Systèmes whose ENOVIA applications provide PLM, BOM, change and collaboration for CATIA and SOLIDWORKS users.

Overview

3DEXPERIENCE is the platform that unifies the Dassault Systèmes portfolio, including CATIA for design, SIMULIA for simulation, DELMIA for manufacturing, BIOVIA for science and materials, and ENOVIA for lifecycle management and collaboration. ENOVIA supplies the PLM backbone: product structures and BOMs, configuration and change management, programme and project management, and governance across design disciplines. Dassault Systèmes, founded in 1981 and listed on Euronext Paris, positions the platform around virtual twins of products, production and organisations.

Dassault now frames its current generation, Gen 7, as 3D UNIV+RSES, which adds generative AI and industrial world models grounded in physics and science. AI virtual companions (Aura for business, Leo for engineering and Marie for science) were presented at the 2026 ENOVIA user conference. The platform is available as SaaS and on premises; a Supplemental Cloud option lets on-premises customers consume cloud-only services. In November 2025 Dassault deepened its sovereign AI partnership with Mistral AI, and its OUTSCALE subsidiary provides sovereign cloud hosting.

Typical customers are aerospace primes and suppliers, automotive OEMs, industrial equipment makers and high-tech firms, many of them long-standing CATIA users. Mid-market SOLIDWORKS customers can access 3DEXPERIENCE cloud roles for data management and collaboration, which gives a path from departmental PDM to platform-based PLM.

Best fit

Engineering-intensive manufacturers, particularly CATIA or SOLIDWORKS users, that want design, simulation, manufacturing and lifecycle data on one vendor platform.

Presence in Europe

Dassault Systèmes is headquartered near Paris, sells through direct teams and partners across Europe, and its OUTSCALE subsidiary operates a sovereign cloud for European customers.

Strengths

  • Native integration with CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, SIMULIA and DELMIA keeps design, simulation and manufacturing data on a single data model.
  • The platform covers a wide scope beyond PLM, including materials science (BIOVIA) and manufacturing operations.
  • SaaS delivery and a European sovereign cloud through OUTSCALE address data residency requirements for European organisations.
  • A sustained investment in AI, including virtual companions and a partnership with Mistral AI, is visible in the 2026 roadmap.

Considerations

  • The value case is strongest for organisations already invested in Dassault authoring tools, and mixed-CAD estates may need additional integration effort.
  • Some newer AI capabilities require cloud access, which on-premises customers must plan for through Supplemental Cloud services.
  • Role-based licensing across a large application catalogue can make scoping and cost comparison complex during selection.
