Aptean PLM Lascom Edition

Aptean PLM Lascom Edition is a cloud PLM for food, beverage, cosmetics and personal care companies from Aptean, built on the Lascom software acquired in 2020.

Overview

Lascom was a French PLM vendor founded in 1989 in Vélizy, near Paris, with US operations in San Diego. Aptean, an industry software group headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia, announced the acquisition in November 2020, when Lascom reported more than 80 customers and about 80,000 users in 30 countries. Aptean now markets the product as Aptean PLM Lascom Edition, often shortened to Lascom PLM.

The product targets regulated consumer industries. Documented capabilities include product portfolio management with BI dashboards, formulation that generates ingredient lists, declarations, nutritional values and costs from rules, stage-gate new product development, packaging specifications with artwork proofing and comparison, template-based specification documents, status-driven lifecycle workflows and a supplier portal for raw material and packaging data. Regulatory functions include recipe checks against customer and legal requirements, multi-language labelling across regulatory zones and automatic product information file generation for cosmetics.

Aptean delivers the Lascom Edition as cloud-native SaaS with continuous updates. Named customers include DS Smith, Monin and Yanbal. The product suits mid-sized and larger food, beverage and cosmetics companies, including those that run or evaluate Aptean ERP products for food and process manufacturing, although it can also run with other ERP systems.

Best fit

Mid-sized and larger food, beverage, cosmetics and personal care companies that need formulation, packaging and regulatory labelling in a cloud PLM.

Presence in Europe

Lascom was founded in 1989 in Vélizy, France, and its European food and cosmetics customer base remains the core of the Lascom Edition.

Strengths

  • Industry-specific functions for food, beverage and cosmetics, including nutrition, allergen declarations and cosmetic product information files.
  • Integrated packaging specification and artwork proofing within the same system as formulation.
  • A supplier portal with approval cycles for raw material and packaging data.
  • Long European heritage and a customer base in regulated consumer industries.

Considerations

  • Aptean's product page documents no sustainability or AI functionality, so buyers with those requirements should request demonstrations.
  • Named integrations are not documented publicly, so ERP and PIM connectivity should be validated in scripted demos.
  • As one product within a large software group, the Lascom Edition's roadmap priorities should be confirmed with Aptean.
