Specright

Specright is a cloud specification management platform from the US company Specright that centralises packaging, product, formula and supplier specification data for consumer goods supply chains.

Overview

Specright positions its software as specification management, a category adjacent to PLM that focuses on the structured data behind packaging, ingredients, formulas and finished goods. The platform includes Packaging Management, Product Data Management, Supplier Collaboration, Project Management and an R&D Workbench for formulation, labelling and claims. Data is modelled as connected specifications that can be shared with suppliers and pushed to ERP systems, which Specright names as the most common integration starting point.

Sustainability and packaging regulation are a visible focus. Specright documents the generation of PPWR Declarations of Conformity and EPR reports, the latter through an integration with Lorax, and a Compliance Insights function that flags regulatory exposure and EPR fees. AI features include an assistant that answers natural-language questions from specification data with links to source records, and Specright IQ, which scans specifications for cost, sustainability and SKU rationalisation opportunities.

Specright was founded in 2014 by Matthew Wright, who became executive chairman in April 2025 when Mike Boese took over as CEO. The company has raised venture funding including a Series B round in 2021. Its customers include food and beverage, beauty and consumer goods companies with large SKU counts and many suppliers, such as Lamb Weston, and it reports SOC 2 Type 2 coverage.

Best fit

Consumer goods, food and packaging-intensive companies that need a single source of truth for packaging and product specifications, often alongside an existing ERP or engineering PLM.

Presence in Europe

Specright is US-based and supports European regulation through PPWR Declarations of Conformity and EPR reporting, while its customer references are predominantly North American.

Strengths

  • Strong packaging specification depth, including PPWR declarations and EPR reporting support.
  • A configurable specification data model shared with suppliers through built-in collaboration.
  • Documented AI assistant and analytics that trace answers back to source specification records.
  • A broad set of ERP integrations including SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Infor and JD Edwards.

Considerations

  • The platform is specification-centric, so organisations needing full stage-gate PLM, CAD management or engineering change control should map gaps carefully.
  • Formulation through the R&D Workbench is newer than the packaging core, so depth should be tested against specialist formulation PLM.
  • European customer references and local support capacity should be checked, as most published references are North American.
