PRO.FILE
PRO.FILE is a PDM and PLM system from Karlsruhe-based PROCAD, part of Revalize, that manages CAD data, documents, BOMs and change processes for mid-sized discrete manufacturers.
Overview
PRO.FILE is a product data and document management system for engineering-driven manufacturers. It manages CAD files, parts, BOMs, technical documents and engineering change processes, and links them to ERP so that design and production work from consistent data. The current platform generation, launched in November 2020 as PRO.FILE next, uses a no-code configuration approach with ready-made application packages, so companies can adapt processes without programming.
PRO.FILE integrates with a broad range of CAD systems, including SOLIDWORKS, Inventor, Creo, CATIA, NX and Solid Edge, plus EPLAN for electrical design and Microsoft 365. ERP integration covers SAP, including SAP S/4HANA, and other systems through the Revalize Integration Hub. PROOM, a companion cloud service, handles secure document exchange with suppliers and partners. The product is primarily deployed on premises and is cloud-capable for hosted operation; the vendor also offers an MCP server so AI tools can access PRO.FILE data.
PROCAD was founded in Karlsruhe in 1985. In late 2021 its investor LEA Partners sold the PROCAD group to Revalize, a US-based group of manufacturing software companies that received a minority investment from Hg at the same time. The product is now marketed as PRO.FILE from Revalize. Typical customers are German, Swiss and Austrian machinery builders, plant engineering firms and industrial suppliers with mixed CAD environments.
Best fit
Mid-sized machinery and plant engineering companies in German-speaking Europe that need robust CAD data and document management linked to SAP or another ERP.
Presence in Europe
PRO.FILE is developed in Karlsruhe with further offices in Bochum, Germany, and Harlow, United Kingdom, and its core customer base is in German-speaking Europe.
Strengths
- A wide set of mechanical and electrical CAD integrations supports mixed design environments.
- No-code configuration and prepared application packages shorten the path to a working system.
- Established SAP integration links engineering BOMs and documents to ERP processes.
- The PROOM service supports controlled external document exchange with suppliers.
Considerations
- The product is primarily on premises, and organisations seeking a multi-tenant SaaS PLM should verify current cloud options.
- Its scope is centred on PDM and engineering processes, with limited native compliance, sustainability and portfolio management.
- The customer base and partner network are concentrated in German-speaking markets, which matters for international rollouts.
