Propel PLM
Propel PLM is a cloud-native product lifecycle management application from Propel Software, built on the Salesforce platform and combined with QMS and PIM for discrete manufacturers.
Overview
Propel Software was founded in 2015 by Ray Hein, Ron Hess and colleagues to build a cloud PLM on the Salesforce platform, and is headquartered in Redwood City, California. Its product suite combines Propel PLM (items, BOMs, change orders, documents and supplier collaboration), Propel QMS (quality processes linked to the product record) and Propel PIM (commercial product content). Building on Salesforce lets product data connect directly to sales, service and manufacturing processes in Salesforce clouds, and Propel also offers an embedded model for companies that do not otherwise use Salesforce.
Propel has expanded its engineering and AI scope. DesignHub, launched in December 2025, connects mechanical and electrical CAD tools to PLM and automates part creation, file updates and BOM structures. Propel One is its platform-native agentic AI layer for change order insights, at-risk component detection and task automation, and in June 2026 Propel announced a production Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for PLM. The Manufacturing Hub, launched in August 2026, provides standardised integration to 12 ERP platforms.
In March 2026 Propel reported 42% year-on-year bookings growth for its fiscal year 2026 and said many customers were moving from Oracle Agile PLM and other legacy systems. Typical customers are medical device, high-tech, electronics and industrial companies that want product, quality and commercial product data in one SaaS environment.
Best fit
Growing medical device, high-tech and industrial companies that want PLM, QMS and PIM in one SaaS suite, especially those already using Salesforce.
Presence in Europe
Propel is delivered as SaaS on the Salesforce platform and does not publicise European offices, so European buyers should confirm local support, partners and data residency options.
Strengths
- Combining PLM, QMS and PIM on one platform connects engineering, quality and commercial product content.
- The Salesforce foundation links product data to sales, service and manufacturing clouds without separate middleware.
- DesignHub and the Manufacturing Hub provide packaged multi-CAD and ERP integration options.
- Propel One and an MCP server expose PLM data to AI agents and assistants.
Considerations
- The product is SaaS only and dependent on the Salesforce platform, which some IT organisations will need to assess.
- Propel does not publicise a European office, so local support and partner coverage in Europe need confirmation.
- Formulation, sustainability and requirements management are outside the core scope of the suite.
